Council of 101 IN SUPPORT OF TH E OR L A ND O M U S E U M OF ART
Council of 101 is excited to share with you our fundraising efforts in support of the Orlando Museum of Art. Each year, the Council partners with sponsors, patrons, volunteers, and friends from our Central Florida community to create the magic of these popular annual events. The Museum is one of Florida’s vital cultural institutions and the women of 101 have committed their time and talent for over fifty years with over $12 million in support of the Museum’s goals. Hand in hand with area businesses and community volunteers, the Council has continued to expand projects such as the Festival of Trees, Art in Bloom and the Corporate Lease Program to further the cultural development and appreciation of the visual arts in our community. Each year, the Festival of Trees transforms the Museum into a wonderland replete with sparkling trees, vignettes, and stunning décor for visitors of all ages. Trees, wreaths, gingerbread houses, and decorative accessories are available for purchase. First presented in 1986, this event is now enjoyed by more than 20,000 attendees every year. Our annual spring event, Art in Bloom - Festival of Fine Arts & Flowers began as an Antiques & Garden Show in 1983. Art in Bloom is honored to continue to enjoy the presence of highly respected antiques dealers offering an array of fine quality antiques, paintings, jewelry, porcelain, and vintage collectibles. Central Florida’s extremely talented floral designers will impress us with breathtaking floral presentations inspired by the museum’s permanent collection. Local tastemakers will highlight this year’s fundraiser Art in Bloom a Festival of Fine Arts & Flowers including Bourbon & Blooms - Opening Night Preview Party, Barley & Blooms - Wine & Beer Garden, Open air Farmers & Artisan Market, Petit Café 101, Champagne & Mimosa bar. Art in Bloom 2021 introduces our first Fine Art Auction, showcasing Central Florida’s internationally recognized artists. The auction can be enjoyed online or in person and will include a special drawing for a Stacy Barter still life and an old Florida package including a painting by Kelvin Hair - son of one of the original highwaymen and a 2 night stay at the Mount Dora Inn. The Council’s Corporate Lease Program began purchasing museum quality prints and gifting them to the Orlando Museum of Art forming the basis for the Contemporary American Graphics Collection in 1974. Works selected from this collection are available for lease to Central Florida businesses.

A long time antiques appraiser and consultant, Miller was born in North Carolina and bought his first major antique at age 14. He graduated from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history. Miller has widened his education by also studying art, music, religion, literature, zoology, chemistry, and botany. In 1979, he began working in the antiques retail business and continued by exhibiting at shows nationally in 1984. His expertise is in American furniture before 1940 and he maintains a great interest in post-impressionist American paintings from the South after WWI as well as southern pottery. He lectures on furniture styles, methods of construction, and how to recognize the authentic antique from the fake. He currently resides in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

A B OUN DLE S S DROP TO A B OUNDLES S OCEAN JANUARY 29 – MAY 2, 2021 A collaboration between the Orlando Museum of Art and the American University in Cairo, A Boundless Drop to a Boundless Ocean, presents artworks by 21 US-based artists of Arab and Iranian heritage. Curated by Dr. Shiva Balaghi, with support from Coralie Claeysen-Gleyzon, the exhibition will be on view in galleries at OMA and AUC’s Tahrir Cultural Center from January 29 through May 2, 2021. The exhibition’s title, taken from Kahlil Gibran’s bestselling book, The Prophet, describes an immigrant’s transformation from “a boundless drop to a boundless ocean.” The show begins with a drawing by Gibran. The immigrant artist’s journey entails a creative negotiation between the past and the present, between here and there. Along the way, diasporic artists create their own visual language that can convey meaning across cultural, linguistic, and social borders.
F ESTIVAL OF TREES NOVEMBER 12-21, 2021 The Festival of Trees transforms the Orlando Museum of Art into a glittering wonderland filled with sparkling trees, vignettes and stunning décor for visitors of all ages. The Orlando Museum of Art will showcase designer Christmas trees of all sizes, holiday vignettes, custom hand designed wreaths and table décor, a gingerbread village, tabletop displays and more.
